Athens

Athens -
Life Unleashed.Athens Welcomes the 2010 Governor's Tourism Conference

The eclectic college town of Athens is nestled 61 miles northeast of Atlanta, just below the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A vibrant, restored Victorian-era downtown teems with art galleries, trendy shops, world-renowned nightclubs and distinctive dining. Historic architecture and impressive gardens complete the unique blend of traditional heritage and trend-setting southern culture. The vibe and energy that gave birth to R.E.M. and the B-52’s are alive and well today!

You'll never be at a loss for things to do in Athens, and the host commitee has scheduled plenty of fun for the evening hours during the conference, including tour, tastings, and live music at Terrapin Brewery  plus alt bluegrass from the Packway Handle Band at the Melting Point.

Why not stay an extra day and take in some other local and area attractions?

May we suggest some of our Top Five picks for an Athens getaway?

Take the opportunity to explore some other area attractions on your way to or from the conference by including the Antebellum Trail, Civil War Heartland, or other trail on our route! Click here for ideas.
