Call for Entries for the 2010 Tourism Awards

The awards committee depends on tourism industry professionals from around the state to offer your valuable feedback on the contributions of your peers and colleagues. An awards committee will review and rate all nominations.

Award Categories

Paul Broun Award for Marketing Initiatives is given in memory of Senator Paul Broun of Athens. He played a vital role in the development and appropriations of funding for Tourism.

2009 Recipient - Georgia’s Antebellum Trail Pilgrimage
2008 Recipient - Elizabeth Harvill- Vidalia CVB

Larry Allen Award for Excellence in Tourism is given in Memory of the late Larry Allen, General Manager of Stone Mountain, in recognition of all around friendship, support and leadership. The Award recognizes excellence in leadership skills and abilities.

2009 Recipient - Lisa Smith, Rome CVB
2008 Recipient - Peter Bowden- Columbus CVB

The Award for Creative Expression is named after Representative Al Burris of Marietta an early advocate of Tourism. He was instrumental in getting the Tourism Division its first major appropriation in 1985 of 2.5 million.

2008 Recipient - Marietta CVB- Hip to be Square

Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an outstanding lifetime commitment towards Tourism.

2009 Recipient - Bill Hardman, Jr., Southeast Tourism Society
2008 Recipient - Spurgeon Richardson- Atlanta CVB

GACVB - Tom Kilgore Award (not awarded every year)

2008 - Judy Renfroe- formerly of the Cobb CVB
2007 – Brenda Price – GACVB, Columbus CVB

Tourism Champion: This new category created in 2003 acknowledges the support and guidance given to the Tourism Division of GDEcD in support of the entire Tourism Industry. There are four (4) main categories in which recognition is awarded under the Tourism Champion umbrella:

  1. Private Industry - given to an individual within the private sector, which has worked tirelessly to spread the message and garner support for Georgia Tourism.

    2009 Recipient - Sean McGinnis/Emmis Publishing
    2008 Recipient - Trent Mercer- Streeter Printing
     
  2. Partner Agency - in recognition of a sister agency that has partnered with GDEcD on efforts to increase visitation and tourism expenditures in Georgia.

    2009 Recipient - Georgia Department of Transportation “Discovery, Education, and Heritage Tourism of the Old Federal Road in Georgia
    2008 Recipient - Clarks Hill Partnership of Georgia Columbia, Lincoln, McDuffie. Warren and Wilkes Counties
     
  3. Product Development - this award is given to a partner agency or individual for outstanding work in attracting capital investments for tourism projects.

    2009 Recipient - Martin Harmon – Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation
    2008 Recipient - The Welcome Center of Forsyth/Monroe County
     
  4. Legislative - for extraordinary support during the Legislative session

    2009 Recipient - Rep. Larry O’Neal
